Beware for your own safety

Subaru of America turned their back on me when I experienced a repeated electrical issue which made my car unsafe to drive. I went back and forth with my local dealer trying to get this problem solved. After the 3rd attempt to find a solution (and the second attempt by Subaru of America to help the dealer find a solution) I was told SOA would not provide me any assistance unless the car was returned to stock. My WRX had an intake and a tune on the car which took about 20 minutes to revert to stock. After the problem came back when the car was stock- my local dealer, after weeks of trying to get them to help me, offered to replace a part for free. SOA, after submitting several negative surveys, eventually gave me part of my money back for the first failed service attempt by the dealer. The problem was a P2138 code in the engine that causes the car to stall at any speed or situation at random. This code is well documented as a problem with Imprezas, outbacks, and legacies 08-14 years. SOA and the dealership were adamant this was a brand-new problem they have never seen before and did not know how to fix it. They replicated the problem several times in their shop and still could not get it fixed. It took several negative surveys to get any Subaru person to listen to me to discuss my issues. Up to that point I was neutral toward Subaru because they were at least attempting to help me. This problem has occurred at least 25 times in the last year (and once within the first 10k miles) and every single time is very dangerous because the accelerator pedal goes dead with no ability to get back on the road unless the ECU is cleared and reset. SOA kept telling me the car was still able to be driven so my concerns were not valid. I tried calling SOA again after the dealer sent me a quote stating they would do a very expensive harness replacement at my expense not knowing if it would fix the issue. That made me lose confidence in the dealership, and the phone message I received from SOA stated SOA will not be involved in any future repairs since the car was out of warranty. Subaru claims to be concerned about safety. When the repairs done at a Subaru dealer would not keep me safe and SOA could not figure out how to fix this issue- they turned their back on me and basically said it is not their problem since they partially refunded my money for a failed repair. I do not understand how a company as large as Subaru would not do everything they can to help their customers maintain safety in their vehicles when it is a documented inherent problem. Do not trust them when they say they care about your safety. I was not even trying to get money or anything free from them. I called SOA to see if they could help me protect fair trade in value for my car with a Subaru dealer- not beg for money like they were assuming. If Subaru master techs and engineers cannot solve an inherent problem, how can I in good conscience sell that car or trade it in so some other unsuspecting person can get injured or screwed over by SOA. I will never recommend Subaru to anyone ever again.

Subaru tagline is most reliable car on the road. I have Subaru 2010 Forester which I drove only 76 K in last 9 years. At my 75 k service appointment i was told there is problem with gasket, steering wheel etc and repair costa round 6k. I called Subaru customer service to see if they can help me with anything since mileage on car is very less and I have kept with all my service appointments. To my surprise I was told they cannot do anything and they apologize for bad car. Seriously.... I was so disappointed to realize that they cannot stand by their product. How can a most reliable car (as they advertise) breakdown completely at 75 k that too when owner has kept up with all required service appointments.

Make your voice heard, Subaru cares about C.S.

I own 2 Subarus, 2012 Outback &;;; a 2018 Imprezza which is the car connected to this compliant.

I have two recalls on my Imprezza, I am 7 hours away from the dealership I bought the imprezza from and will be traveling for the next 3 weeks not close to Parker Subaru where I purchased my car and wanted to get the two recalls taken care so I called Eastside Subaru in Kirkland WA gave them my vin # to get an appointment. They came back and told me the 1st available appointment was in June.

3 MONTHS AWAY!!!. I asked why and they said there was an issue getting parts and they were really booked up.. REALLY. So I called Parker Subaru in Idaho and asked if there was a problem parts availability for these recalls.

They don't seem to have any problems, so I draw the following conclusions because customers don't like when they lied to. That even though it's a factory recall your dealers are very selective in supporting and servicing your customers and meeting their expectations. So much for all those surveys that dealers proposition you into giving them rave reviews. Let me be clear I am very happy with Parker Subaru in Idaho.

But you have dealer in Kirland that is letting you down, and is comfortable fabricating fairytales. I will not bring my car to Eastside dont bother having them call me but June.

Disappointed, Robert Aurisy

Yes my family and I have purchased 5 vehicles from Subaru in the last 2 and a half years. This past December we purchased a 2020 Ascent for $49,848.00 Do you all ever send customers gifts. We traded in a 2018 Forester for the Ascent because the Ascent wasn't out yet. The Ascent is excellent for my 19 year old disabled son. Well if you ever do send us anything please let it be a Klettersack or a Rover backpack. Thank you, Clay & Peggy Walls 3803 Doral Dr Little Rock, AR 72212

Subaru Of America - Problems with multiple blinking lights on my screen displays
Updated by user Oct 20, 2019

Subaru of America agreed to buy back this car. Too many issues with it.

My experience with this car & company was not great that I've decided not to get another Subaru even though they offered to give me another one. The issue with customer service took too long. All in all, this was not a great experience.

Just happy to finally resolve the issue. Back to Chevy I go.

The dealer agreed to buy back the car. They sent me a settlement agreement & will let me know when to bring the car in to transfer ownership.

This is a6 month old car. Multiple blinking lights should not even be popping up on my screen display. My Ascent has been at the Sherman Oaks Subaru since Wednesday afternoon. Last update yesterday before 3pm was that they had no idea what the problem is with it.

New 2020 forester premium, my second forester. Initially looks great, but having an issue with rough idle - whole care shakes a bit at times. First few starts were really rough to the point on almost stalling. Now getting so many squeaks and rattles, one near the a-pillar passenger side. The dealer starts calling me out on the test drive saying she can not hear the rattle, I must be deaf was the quote. Never been more mad, so returned to the dealer and took off. Tried to find rattle in myself and no luck so far. Think I am going to ditch this car and trade it in. My wife's Ascent had 3 recalls in one dealer visit!!!

I purchased my first Outback in 2011 and fell in love-fun to drive, responsive, better in the snow than my husband's 4WD, and, most importantly, safe. I bought my second Outback in 2015-loved the mileage, handling, and new safety features added since my 2011. Recently, I purchased my 3rd Outback on 12/31/19. On 1/3/20, I was broadsided by a Prius going 55mph. The impact lifted my Outback in the air, casing me to hit another vehicle.I bounced off of that vehicle, and was hit again by the Prius. All of my airbags/curtains activated. I had purchased Starlink, who responded immediately. My 3-day-old Outback was totaled, but I was not-I walked away from the accident (literally-I walked to the ambulance!) with nothing more than 5 broken ribs (caused by the impact of the center console.) There was not even a bruise on my body.I shudder to think what may have happened if I were in another vehicle! Thank you, Subaru, for focusing on safety-you may have saved my life because of it!

Don’t buy a Subaru

1) I dislike the feature that shuts off the engine when I stop. Its not necessarily a bad feature to have but it should be something to choose for the car to do or not. Not the kind of current choice where every time you get in the car you have to remember to deactivate it. The standard should be that it doesnt do that and then you have the option to turn it on. 2) I dislike the way the radio interacts with my iPhone. It takes over automatically and seems to start loudly playing my playlist at inconvenient times. I would much prefer to be able to turn the radio completely off, and be able to simply choose whether I want to listen to my playlist or not.
