Be careful using My Subaru App remote starter.

Very upset that there is no reset button for password. Tells you to call customer service and they do not open till 10:30 on Fridays. Unable to use remote starter because of this.

Set up your MySubaru.com account at the dealership with the sales rep

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

It has been 17 months since I bought my 2017 Outback 3.6R I finally decided to set up a MySubaru.com account. I could not do so because my VIN "could not be activated." I researched and found this meant that Subaru still had my VIN listed under the previous owner.

I called customer service and explained. The representative said it would be fixed within 2 days and I would get an email notifying me when it was.

I received the email notification. I went to sign in, and realized I did not know what password had been used to set it up. I hit the "forgot my password" option.

After a security code was sent to my phone and I entered it, I was able to set up a new password.

However, I was then asked three security questions! I had no idea what the answers were. I guessed for each one, in case somehow my own information was used. It was not, and I was locked out of the account for entering three wrong answers.

It is Saturday, and Monday is Veterans Day, so I have to wait until Tuesday to talk with Customer Service.

The fact that my VIN was listed as belonging to the prior owner 17 months after I purchased the Outback is annoying.

The fact that the representative set up an account for me using a password and three security questions which I was not given the answers to is even more annoying. The fact that I am locked out for the next three days is the final annoying.

Pros:
  • Tough reliable nice looking vehicle
Cons:
  • Mysubaru website works poorly
  • Customer service did not explain what i needed to do
  • Vin number listed as belonging to previous owner
Reason of review:
Access/ activation issues

Preferred solution: 1) Assign the VIN number to the new owner when a car is sold. 2) Fix the website so it actually works correctly when one tries to set up an account.

Resolution to Problems

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My flat tire was repaired and in a timely fashion although when I picked up the auto after the work was completed I noticed that the alloy wheel was unusually dirty and there were dirty hand marks on the upholstery of the driver's door. I went to Subaru Service today to complain and they quickly performed a clean up on the alloy wheel and the driver's door. Also I complained about the Trip Setting being pushed during the time of repair and showing up 192 miles on the Trip odometer. My guess was that the car was driven 192 miles in one day during the time of repair. The service department discovered and told me that the Trip Setting (which I have never touched since I purchased the vehicle) automatically resets at 10,000 miles. Coincidentally I brought the car in for repair at 10,000 miles on the odometer. This is something that I was unaware of so I apologize to the service department for my incorrect assumption. I am satisfied with the clean up after the service repair work but I believe that service department should have checked this over before releasing the car back to me. You have to keep on their toes to keep them up to par on their performance. The floors of the service department are impeccably clean. The car should be fairly clean after repair services. On another note, I observed with another customer there that the service manager was quoting some prices for various repairs on a vehicle. The prices that were quoted I believe are on the brink of unaffordability. The price for an oil change is 74 dollars. This is a bit high when you consider that you can purchase the certified oil for 22 dollars and a whole package of 6 original equipment oil filters for about the same price. If you are savvy and able you can very easily change the oil yourself for about one third the price that the service department charges. On one occasion I called the service department about the cost of an oil change and they told me they don't profit much on an oil change. They do it simply as a favor to their customers. If they think that they can make me believe this kind of a statement that would make me a fool. Otherwise the service department did an adequate job on my repair. We will see in the future if this service department will live up to high standards that they claim. Thank you. Vince

The CVT (transmission) and front drive shafts will fail prematurely

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
With less than 50k miles on my 2014 Crosstrek the right front axle began to 'bind up' when turning a corner. I had both fronts replaced with aftermarket units from RockAuto. No problem since with axles. Now at 127k miles, and the CVT failed. Evidently you have to replace the entire solenoid assembly, ie: electronics rather than more easily serviced individual parts. Expect to pay $1500 to $2000 for that service, as you have to order parts from Subaru :-(

Nope. Buy a Ford.

Subaru 2006 legacy. Major throttlebody wire harness connecting problems. Subaru refuses to address the safety issue. I will never ever buy a Subaru in my life. This field throttlebody has left me stranded along the highway more times than I can count. Subaru does not acknowledge this problem nor will they address it as a safety issue. Go to ***

My son, his financee and her 18 month old were in her Suburu Forrester. A semi crossed center line hit car in front of my son then hit my son on the drivers side. The vehicle rolled 3 or 4 times. When we got to the accident scene I didn't think I would ever see them again. Both he and his fiancée airlifted to UNMC in Omaha. 18 month old had one scratch on his chin. My son has a fractured c2 vertebrae, broken left arm and 14 staples in his head. She has bumps and bruises but nothing broken. Both released from hospital next night. Nothing short of a miracle. This is dashcam footage of the crash. Thank you so much for my sons life!!!!

Certified service Agreement

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I receive the Subaru outback extended certified service agreement (CPO) in the mail the other day, I wanted to express the disappointment that I have with the with Subaru CPO. Reading the fine print and discovering the details of my 7 years or 100, 000 miles warranty. This certified pre-owned agreement (CPO) for which I was sold is really a huge disappointment. The so-called 7 years coverage is not 7 years As it started on back on 07-012-16, the year of this car 2017, it will end on 2023, which in 4 years! This CPO 100, 000. Miles coverage, is not 100, 000 miles as it was pre owned and when you start deducting the current millage for which was 23 thousand miles, my coverage is really 77 thousand miles. So, when you look at this so-called 7 years or 100, 000 miles (CPO) that we thought we were buying, it’s detail revels it’s only good for: 4 years or 77 thousand miles. We were lead to believe that this CPO would cover a lot more than this, We are very disappointed in how Subaru is standing behind its product. This information was not given to us and not seeing all the breakdown in the contract prior to purchasing this agreement. Not only was the contract misleading it did not explain that you were dating this car prior to the year it was being sold! Furthermore last week, I got a prompt from the 2017 Subaru Outback instrument panel telling me to schedule oil service, I called the Arrowhead Dealership service department and told them that, I had only driven the car for about 2 thousand miles since I bought it, I ask the lady, do they change and reset the oil service reminder in the car, she was not sure? So, I scheduled a Oil service at your dealership. When I arrived, I told by the service adviser (Brad) my dilemma, he got into my car without looking or checking my oil, reset the oil reminder service light to reflect 3 more thousands miles. I also informed him that, I had a low pressure Or TPMS warring light that came on and that I did check the tire pressure and with no such luck the TPMS light did not go off, he told me that he would have one of the guys check the air-pressure, I explained to him that I have already done this, I’m at the dealership, I would like to get this fixed, as the light in the dash has been on now for several days. He told me that I would need to make another appointment to get that this look at. Great way to treat or impress a new customer. I took my car to Discount tires and they check the TMPS and told me that they had to reset the TPMS, which took about 10 min. The TMPS light is off no charge, thanks to Discount! Torque Converter Problem

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My son's 2011 Subaru Legacy stalls constantly endangering his life! This is a known issue with Subaru, yet they refuse to compensate for the repair costs of $1700 because the vehicle's miles exceed 100k. These vehicles are defective by design, and Subaru must take responsibility for their faulty, dangerous vehicles. If they care about their customers' safety, they should recall these vehicles.

Never

I had bought a 2012 Forester in 2016 from Day Subaru on University Blvd, Coraopolis, PA. It was a lemon from the get go. I even had to replace the motor which blew up. Of course this happened just weeks after my warranty expired. I have had the worst customer service. Sales staff seemed very apathetic, and in the service dept, Carlos was the rudest man ever. He literally yelled at me in front of other customers calling me ridiculous. Because of this experience, I have traded in this vehicle for a Honda. Goodbye Subaru forever!!!!
