Great unexpected surprise!

Yesterday I received a package from Subaru Customer Retailer Services that included a Roadside Emergency Kit and a nice insulated drinking mug. Thank you very much...I hope I never need the kit, but it's nice to know I have one if the need arises. I think I told you how much I enjoy my Outback...it's probably the best car I have owned ! David Tompkins I am still discovering things I didn't know....like the android auto feature and a display warning about anow or ice on the road when the temp is 32 deg or lower. Don't think I can come up with 100 words as I have no complaints. {{Redacted}}

Changing headlight bulbs

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Having to remove a front tire and most of the fender liner just to change a low beam headlamp on my Subaru Outback is about the worst engineering in a car I have ever seen. I love my outback ...but the dealer wanted $600.00 for the job. It took me over one hour and $20.00. Com’on Subaru, you can do better than this. I will be looking at this detail when I shop for my next car. By the way, plenty of self help videos on UTube did help a lot. Let’s hope the new lamps, I did both together, last at least another 4 years. I wonder what other surprises are waiting for me Vis. A vie repair nightmares. oK, I’m done, for now.

Complaint

I am leasing a 2016 Subaru Outback. I love the vehicle BUT I have one major complaint. I can't understand why the vehicle door locking system does lock automatically when the vehicle begins to move. In other words, if I forget to lock it manually, I am driving without my doors locked. Also when getting to my destination, I have to, once again, manually unlock the system before I can open a door (unlike most other newer car where one can just open a locked door by pulling on the door handle. I think this is a terrible safety issue because I dont always remember to manual. {{Redacted}}

Ongoing issues for the radio/navigation/clock

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I bought my 2nd Subaru 2017 Outback in September after my 1st one was totaled during Hurricane Harvey. Starting in October, I have had numerous problems with the radio/navigation/clock. It has been replaced once. Same merchandise and same problems. Service manager went so far as to say that maybe it was operator error. Nav has made the map quiver at times, freeze and once it was a globe in space as if I were viewing it from the space station. I was not. The new service manager said that they didn't know if it could be fixed and that they were having these same problems with the 2017 and 2018 models. I am beyond frustrated with the service with this company and have no faith in the problems being resolved. I have documented these issues and have photos and videos. Fix this or refund my money. I have been sold a faulty product. My advice to car buyers would be to NOT buy Subaru.

Complaint

I plan on contacting the home office but I was in a parking lot an hour away from home...car full of groceries...I could not put car in drive or reverse...called the 800 number on windshield got a tow guy to come 45 minutes later...the service gal in Clarksville told me out to reset it...I already was home by that time...it was the brake light thing...I had no brake lights and had no idea...the part was cheap but labor was expensive...I am 70 years old and being stranded was a very scary thing...crosstrek was expensive and can’t afford another car...this should be on a recall list!!!!!

I still would Iike to know why they won’t enable Apple CarPlay in the 2018 Forrester. StarLink sucks about as bad as it can get.

Please update the software or replace the head units. Every other 2018 Subaru model has CarPlay.

Bring it to the Forrester please! Otherwise Subaru is the best.

Increasing cost of air conditioning repair

First,let me say,I have owned 4 subaru vehicles over the years and have loved them all! However,my current 2009 Forester has had 2 major issues this last calendar year. I realize it is 10 years old and I expect there will be aging problems. The first was replacement of all head gaskets(along with the timing belt),but my current issue relates to air conditioning. my unit stopped putting out cold air last year and the dealership injected dye last fall to detect any leaks. I took it back 1 month ago and was told the condenser needed replaced to the tune of $671. Fine,I figured problem fixed! Today I had it back for the same problem,only to be told NOW it is the compressor that needs replaced for $900! I am not a mechanic,but it is my opinion that they could have,and should have checked that when they replaced the condenser? I feel they thought it was fixed and didn't even look any further. Now I have another labor cost! I don't mind paying for the part! I am NOT a chronic complainer,just retired and on a fixed income! Please advise! Thanks for your time and attention to this matter.

Negligence with oil change resulting in new engine installation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On 9/12/2017, I took my daughter's 2010 Subaru Impreza to Lester Glenn Subaru of Toms River, NJ for a 90,000 mile servicing. Explained the car needed to be in optimal shape for a road trip to Florida where my daughter would be moving the following month. Half way through our journey, driving on 95 S in North Carolina, the car began to slow down and resist her attempts to increase speed. We pulled over onto the shoulder. After being towed (twice), told by 2 different garages the latter being Cross Creek Subaru, we were told the engine seized due to oil drain plug falling out. They inspected oil pan, drain plug threads intact, no stripping, pan not dented. Service manager explained whoever changed the oil last undoubtedly must have neglected to torque on the oil plug correctly as there is a unique way of doing so with Subaru's. Also the force of the continuous highway travel contributed to the already improperly torqued oil plug coming loose. We ended up spending over $4000 for a new (used engine) plus other unexpected costs of a car rental, hotel, and car transport after the car was repaired.

Lester Glenn Subaru ignored us, stating too much time went by from when the oil was changed to the car breaking down. No warning lights came on during those 6 weeks, until the last minute when the oil plug fell out. Cross Creek Subaru said timing did not matter, that it was the force of the continuous highway driving that contributed to the already poorly torqued oil plug, and whoever changed the oil last was responsible for the damage.

Spoke with Branden of Subaru of America, who received all this information, and he only spoke to Lester Glenn Subaru, never bothered to speak with Cross Creek Subaru who found the reason for the negligence. Poor Customer Service here on Subaru of America's "Customer Service Dept"

This complaint is in dispute with American Express.

These expenses were completely unnecessary all due to the negligence of an oil change. Every time my daughter has to take her car now for future servicing and oil changes, she has to watch them do the work properly and speak with the mechanic and service manager about her experience.

Continually disappointed

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am continually disappointed with my Subaru durability. I own a 2012 legacy, have been the only owner and have it serviced at a dealer, the same dealer since the day i bought it, thinking this was a good idea and would help it last longer.

Often they are fixing one part and break another; sometimes they own up to it other times not. The most recent BS repair was a 'stripped ' oil pan. Well I have had many cars for long periods of time and have never had a stripped oil pan. It went in for an oil change with no drips or leaks then i was told it was so damaged they did not even know how the plug was still in there.

Since i was leaving on vacation i did not have any time to research so $400 later my tiny oil pan and gasket (part price $87) was installed.

As i was laying under my car the next day i was pretty sure i could have installed the thing in 15 minutes but it took the mechanic $264 in labor, so like 90 minutes - it left me feeling double ripped off. Do not trust your dealers, or your cars are just cheap crap Either way I do not love my subaru and never have.

Support of fox news

I purchased a forrester from you last august great car my wife and i love it.

The reason i am writing though is I noticed subaru runs ads on fox news.

This so called news station has supported the immigration polices of trump.What is happening at our borders is a disgrace, taking children from their parents .If subaru continues to give money to support fox news and their horrible support for this policy i will never purchase another one from you.No company should support the fox news station that supports this horrible treatment of children. It is a disgrace.I will tell everyone I know about your support of this station and its polices .Shame on subaru for supporting this news station thank you

Trump was most effective President in my lifetime. Biden is terrible and letting all illegals in through the southern border.

Trump's border policy was very effective.

Fox News is the best news. All other news is FAKE News.
