This dealer is very deceptive in their sales practices. They showed us a warranty package and told us the platinum included everything with the price shown of $1690, but in reality they slipped it to us for $3900. The way they worked it was during the closing they just asked do you want this and do you want that never telling us that these were all extra charges. I didn't sit in on the final sale because my back hurt to much, but the next morning I reviewed the figures and you dealer told me tough ***. When I asked my stepdaughter about the figure she said she asked them about that and they just blew her of and pushed my wife to sign so they sold us a car for $28,000 that books for $18,000 2014 Forester These type dearler give you all a black eye and should be reprimanded. I would like to think you should help us, we are on SS and my wife is so depressed she can't sleep.

Subaru Outback CVT failure and rip-off on replacement parts

Our 2013 Subaru Outback started making a whirring noise two months ago, slight at first then louder. We live 120 miles from the dealer. We've had oil changes in our local garage. We priced a replacement CVT from the local shop for around $2800 for a remanufactured part. After driving to Subaru dealer for diagnostic (weren't sure what it was) they assured us it was the wheel bearing. Turned out it was the CVT. They quoted us $7000 for the remanufactured part. Vehicle was 10,000 miles out of extended warranty. The customer service agent offered $2000 check to the dealer, but won't extend it to the local shop. Seems like they mark up their parts to make up for such "goodwill" offers to help pay. They bake it into their overpriced parts, evidently.

  • Liked car until expensive reair
Cons:
  • Dealerships
Reason of review:
Unwilling to extend offer to the local shop to help us out with the exhorbitant cost for repair on a supposed trouble free part.

Preferred solution: Let us take the proferred amount of $2000 and apply it to the repair at our local garage.

Unbelievably bad customer service

SEPTEMBER 20, 2016 AT 6:11 PM Subaru makes great cars but their car repair and service depts don't seem to understand customer service. I took my 2007 Outback in for an airbag recall. This was after several letters/emails from Subaru telling me about the recall but also telling me each time that the replacement airbags were not yet available. Finally I called my local (Santa Fe, New Mexico) Subaru dealer and they said come on in. I had my airbags replaced but on driving my car home I noticed that several dashboard warning lights (battery, parking brake, etc.) that I had never seen before started coming on. I called the Subaru service location back and left a message, of course I couldn't actually get to speak to anyone. My message described the problem and requested someone to call me back as to when I could bring my car back in to fix the issue. After several days of leaving such messages and getting no calls back, my car died. I got AAA to pick it up and take it back to the Subaru service place that did the damage. The service person there said that it sounded like I needed a new alternator. What a coincidence! My car was running fine when I took it in for the airbag recall but all of a sudden, the alternator was defective? But, what could I do? So I left my car with Subaru service department to analyze the problem. The next morning I received a phone message from Subaru asking me to call them back. After trying all day to speak with someone at Subaru and leaving 3 or 4 telephone messages, by late afternoon I finally spoke with a human being. He (Sam) told me that the problem was in fact a faulty alternator (Surprise!) but he couldn't now order it until the next day and it would take a couple of days to arrive and install. After experiencing their unbelievably bad response on the telephone, I am even more suspicious about the "alternator" diagnosis. It really feels like like they did the (free) airbag recall repair and then figured out how to add some income by messing with the alternator. I feel like I'm being jerked around and screwed at the same time.

Oil consumption test fair to customer?

I had the oil consumption test performed on 10/17/2016 at Prestige Subaru in Asheville, NC. In a nutshell I was so close to qualifying for the repair the service manager, Jerry, said he was going to call headquarters to see if he could do anything.

The answer was no, even though I was close, I did not qualify according to Subaru's "formula". This seemed like such an inadequate response since I always have to add oil to my car between oil changes (every 5K miles) I was certain I should and would qualify. As the owner of the vehicle what matters to me is not some formula but the fact that I should not have to add engine oil so often. On top of this for some very strange reason Subaru did not put a low oil indicator light on the 2011 forester - which means I am constantly fearful that I will forget to check my oil or not check it soon enough and my engine will be virtually destroyed if i suddenly run out of oil.

YIKES. I am proud to be a Subaru owner and have been a fan of the Subaru brand, however, this issue has been incredibly disappointing and I am sad to say I could not buy another Subaru unless Subaru makes this right.

Oil consumption is NOT okay!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I am the unhappy owner of a 2013 Subaru Forester. It consumes oil at a rate of 1 1/2 - 2 quarts per oil change, and you know what? According to Subaru America this is within the acceptable limits! In the 3 1/2 years of ownership I have had gaskets replaced, short block replaced, gaskets replaced again. The dealership ASSURED me that Subaru would stand behind the repairs when they put in a new block. I feel more like they had me stand out in front and just ran me over! All kinds of excuses for why it uses oil - manual transmission, my driving habits, high rpms (really have never seen the tach over 3000 and that is at 75 mph on the interstate). Their fix? Instead of oil changes every 7500 miles, it is now every 6000 miles. My last oil change it used 1 qt in about 3500 miles which is an average of 10.6 oz/1200 miles, and that is acceptable to Subaru. FIX THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. STOP MAKING EXCUSES!!! I will NEVER own another Subaru, which is sad because I really LOVED my car when I got it. Don't believe the Subaru hype!

I too have the same "oil consumption" issue and wish Subaru would stand behind these cars. Years ago, I had an issue with a Ford Van and Ford told me to make my best deal on a trade in for another Ford.

I did this and then Ford rebated me $4000 on top of my best deal!!! This is how I drove Fords for 40 years. Subaru should do the same.

I have the 2013 Outback with 70000 miles on it and would like to trade it in on another one, a 2017 model, but am concerned that the "oil consumption" issue will remain with the new car. If the price was right, I would consider buying another Subaru.

Having the same issue with my 2014 Outback. No resolution, I'm told this is "normal." I will not buy another Subaru.

Suburu LEMON

I have a suburu outback 2005 with appx 60,000 mi. I went in for the 60,000 tune up and it cost me $1500.00. 1 month later The car sounds like a race car on the highway and I am told I have $3000.00 worth of needed work. I drive my car like an old lady. I treat it very well. So now Suburu's cost of a vehicle ends up being like I purchased a high end car. Catalytic converters go on this car too often. What are you building? I had a legacy that was a great car, I no longer love you suburu. You have lost my affections!Take pride in what you build!

Subaru Of America Car Repair Review

I had a recall for my 2010 windshield wiper motor so I took it to Subaru of Glendale where I always go. I have been waiting 2 hours and my car was just parked and no one even started working on it. The person, Harry moronyan, kept telling me that they were working on it. He was lying through his teeth. I am still waiting.

Get a free consult from a local attorney to explore your options. Don't ignore it if they have indeed sued you.

Apparently, you signed a purchase agreement of some sort and then backed out of the deal. Get some legal advice, even if it costs you a few bucks.

Subaru SUCKS Buy HONDA

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I've never had such an aweful experience as I have had with my 2013 SubaruLegacy. First month had to replace the seat Car Drives like a tank but since I've aways had HONDAs I wasn't sure if I was just spoiled by how great HONDAs drive first 6 months the paint started CHIPPING Thinking it was a BIG mistake to change up to a SUBARU now in year 3 and only 57,000 miles the transmission had to be replace. Loaner car was great so I hoped that once the transmission was fixed mine would drive better. NOPE still drives like a tank and now after less than 2 weeks it makeing the same sound it made when we had to have transmission changed so I guess I'm going to have to take it back to the dealer to get transmission fixed again After multiple calls to Subaru and waiting for 25-70 mins each time to talk to someone, they will give me a Whopping $500.00 credit if I want to buy a new car from them......amazing that they think that would help in the least. I've never had such bad luck with a car but I think everyone should be aware that they are not what the ads claim.. My car, that I paid $26,000, is now worth 13,300 on a trade in with Subaru and I haven't had it to Honda yet so I'm not sure what they will give me:(

Express Oil Change

We bought the car and one of the "special" deals with the dealership is that you get free oil changes for life. Not a big problem when you can schedule and go get the oil changed.

Now the have this "EXPRESS" service on a first come first serve basis. The first time it was 2 and 1/2 hours to get into the oil change, and then the 20 minutes to have the oil changed. 3 HOURS!!! Next oil change was only 1 and 3/4 hours, then 20 minutes for oil change.

Before this "EXPRESS" service it was 20 minutes. We want to be able to schedule our oil change. It doesn't matter what time of day we have been there, we always have to wait a minimum of 45 minutes.

This is horrible customer service!!!! The EXPRESS service is not express, so get rid of it and go back to scheduling!!!!!!!

Purchase a car

Tried to buy a Forester from one of the dealers in NJ. Visited them 3 times and was not able to close the deal. After the 2nd visit the sales manager call me to visit the dealership to settle on a agreeable deal. On my last visit, the salesperson agrees on a deal, and asks me to sign off or provide other documentation to show my intent. After he visits the salesperson returns indicating that the manager had a different number. i feel that the whole buting experience a waste of time, effort and confidence on the dealership and the subaru product. I think, it would be wiser to revert back to the Accura. Though expensive, the sales agent were more insync with customer expectations.

No phone Tech Support, terrible dealer troubles shooting

I have the same code as most, misfire number one. Took it to Herb Gordon Subaru to repair.

They had the car all day and ran every test and could not find anything wrong. Of course I was paying per hour. I called Subaru and they would not help and said I have to take it to Subaru and I told them I just did and they could not find the problem.

I called the dealer and they said we can fix it and to bring it in and I replied, it was just there and you had it all day and could not repair it? I guess if you are paying $100.00 per hour, they will say they can fix it, but let them put a limit on the actual diagnoses

Poor Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have on multiple occasions had the same complaint to Chatham Parkway Subaru in Savannah, GA. When you take the car in for a simple oil change they do their "full inspection". They then come and tell you that the car is ready, but oh by the way we found this or that issue that really need to be addressed soon. As I am sitting at the dealership waiting with my two toddlers they come and tell me that the car is ready but my rear breaks are in need of service very soon. Why do you continue to make customers return for service instead of contacting them while the car is already in back and being worked on, especially if the issue is a safety concerns such as brakes. They really need a better way of communicating concerns from the service dept to service advisers and the customer. I guess they think we have nothing better to do than sit at there dealership, or maybe they think if they get you on the lot enough you may upgrade to a new car. Well I am going to upgrade as soon as possible but it will NOT be to another Subaru. I love the car but after dealing with the issues of the service dept for 4.5 years I am done!
