I took my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek into my local dealership for my first oil change. After waiting over 2 hours the service writer told me that my car came from the factory with a “double gasket” in the oil filter and the mechanic didn’t realize it! He put the cap back on and I guess when he started up the engine oil spewed out all over my engine and the insulation around the manifold was soaking with oil. He said “the smell was horrible” and there was no way that I could drive it like that. They gave me a loaner car, ordered new exhaust parts and replaced everything necessary. I now have my car back. It seems fine but my question is, “how can this happen?” Can a car come from the factory with a double gasket or was this simply human error by the mechanic?
This event caused me an awful lot of stress. I just want the truth. What do you think really happened?
